‘People who should be held are being held’: Pretrial Fairness Act marks first year this week

One year after cashless bail went into effect, proponents say the new law has accomplished what they intended which is to detain violent offenders awaiting trial. Opponents, including one county sheriff, call it a “failed and flawed law” and say it has placed more people in custody and increased courtroom caseloads.
