A Kenosha, Wisconsin man remained in critical condition Monday after the pickup truck in which he was a passenger struck a light pole early Sunday near Wadsworth, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office said.
The 19-year-old had to be extricated from the Dodge Ram 1500, which ended up in a ditch along U.S. Route 41. The driver, also a 19-year-old Kenosha man, suffered minor injuries, police said.
The sheriff’s office said they were headed north at around 4:45 a.m. Sunday when the truck left Route 41 near Kelly Road. The driver told police he was looking at his GPS unit and failed to negotiate a curve in the road.
The truck hit the light pole and then drove into a ditch before becoming airborne and striking two trees. The truck came to a rest on the driver’s side.
There have been no charges filed as the crash remains under investigation, the sheriff’s office said Monday.
