Grayslake woman killed in Indiana Toll Road crash

A 73-year-old Grayslake, Illinois woman was killed when her vehicle crashed into a parked semi Sunday afternoon at an Indiana Toll Road rest stop.

Around 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Indiana State Police responded to the parking lot of the westbound Indiana Toll Road rest stop near Rolling Prairie, Indiana at mile marker 56, according to a release. Trooper Paul Arnold arrived at the scene and observed that a Toyota Rav4 had driven under a semi-trailer that was parked in the truck lot.

The driver of the Toyota — Marcie Rodriguez — was found dead in her vehicle, the release stated. The driver of the semi was not injured as he was in the sleeper area of the cab at the time of the crash.

The initial investigation shows the Rodriguez’s Toyota entered the rest area at a high rate of speed and for an unknown reason veered into the trailer of the parked semi, police said. Police don’t believe that drugs or alcohol were a factor in this crash.

The Indiana State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division assisted in the crash investigation.
