Man fatally wounded in exchange of gunfire Tuesday night on Lower West Side, second man critically wounded, Chicago police said

An unidentified man was fatally wounded Tuesday night in an exchange of gunfire that left another man in critical condition on the Lower West Side, Chicago police said.

Shortly before 10:30 p.m., the occupants of a red sedan and a dark-colored SUV got out of their vehicles and an exchange of gunfire ensued in the 1200 block of South Union Avenue, police said.

An unidentified mna suffered a gunshot wound to the face and was taken to Stroger Hospital where he was pronounced dead. A second victim, 19, was dropped off at Rush University Medical Center and later transferred to Stroger Hospital in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the chest, police said.

No one was in custody and detectives were investigating the circumstances leading up to the shootings.
