Steve Reaven’s football rankings and players of the week for Lake County

Libertyville remains on top as Stevenson, Wauconda, Antioch, Grayslake North and Grayslake Central all move up.

1. Libertyville 4-0 (1)

Steve Strelow rushes for 138 yards on 23 carries and makes five catches for 73 yards during the Wildcats’ North Suburban Conference win against Lake Zurich.

2. Lake Forest 4-0 (2)

In the Scouts’ NSC win against Zion-Benton, Timotei Dan makes 13 tackles, including a sack; recovers two fumbles, returning one for a touchdown; kicks a 37-yard field goal; and converts all four of his PAT tries.

3. Stevenson 3-1 (5)

Anthony Adams III records 1 ½ sacks, three tackles for loss and a fumble recovery as the Patriots’ defense dominates in an NSC win against Mundelein.

4. Wauconda 3-1 (6)

Luke Sickmeir makes six catches for 136 yards and two TDs in the Bulldogs’ Northern Lake County Conference win against Round Lake.

5. Antioch 3-1 (7)

Martin Cohen gets untracked in the Sequoits’ NLCC win against Lakes with 13 carries for 235 yards and four TDs, two catches for 19 yards and a TD, and a 61-yard pass.

6. Mundelein 3-1 (3)

The Mustangs’ road doesn’t get any easier with their next two games against Libertyville and Warren.

7. Grayslake North 3-1 (10)

Cameron Bates’ 85-yard TD on the opening kickoff gets the Knights going in a wild 58-57 NLCC win against Grant, during which he also records 175 receiving yards with two TDs.

8. Grayslake Central 3-1 (NR)

The Rams ride a three-game winning streak into their NLCC game against Grayslake North but have lost five of their past seven in the crosstown series.

9. Grant 2-2 (9)

Tyler Zdon scores four TDs and accounts for 254 of the Bulldogs’ 503 yards of offense in the loss to Grayslake North.

10. Deerfield 2-2 (8)

Mac Jones and the Warriors almost dig out of a 28-0 hole in the fourth quarter of an eight-point loss to unbeaten Fremd that comes down to the last play.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Senior quarterback Mitchell Hughes completes 15 of 26 passes for 326 yards and four touchdowns and also converts all four of his 2-point conversion passes during Grayslake North’s 58-57 Northern Lake County Conference win against Grant.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Senior linebacker Griffin Suren records six tackles, two sacks and two interceptions, returning one for a touchdown, during Stevenson’s 36-0 North Suburban Conference win against Mundelein.
