Local authors fair being held Sunday at Elgin library

Dozens of local writers are scheduled to take part in an Authors Fair and Children’s Authors Fair from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6, at the Gail Borden Public Library, 270 N. Grove Ave., Elgin.

More than 50 authors from Elgin and elsewhere across the Midwest will be present to talk about and sell their books, according to a news release.

Authors of adult works will be in the library’s Meadows Community Rooms and children’s book authors will be in the Sally Lee Rooms. Various genres will be represented at the fair.

Groundbreaking set for Elgin Sports Complex expansion

The city of Elgin will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the expansion of the Elgin Sports Complex at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 4, at the complex, just south of Route 20 and east of McLean Boulevard.

Expected to cost about $21 million, the project will add three synthetic turf fields, lighting and fencing to 87 acres purchased from the state of Illinois several years ago, according to a news release. The project also includes a new playground, parking areas, walking trails, restrooms, a concessions plaza, a shade pavilion and a bike path.

A new roadway will connect Route 31 to the complex, giving it two access points.

The groundbreaking is open to the public. Attendees should enter from McLean Boulevard and follow the signs to the expansion area.

History museum holding wine, Halloween candy ‘fun-raiser’

The Elgin History Museum is holding a wine and Halloween candy tasting “fun-raiser” from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4, at its Old Main building, 360 Park St.

Attendees will be given a glass and a tasting sheet to sample four red and four white wine selections paired with different Halloween candies set up at stations throughout the museum, a news release said.

‘Inside Out 2’ to be shown in Dolphin Cove parking lot

Dundee Township Park District will be showing the animated Disney film “Inside Out 2” at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4, in the parking lot for Dolphin Cove Family Aquatic Center, 300 N. Kennedy Drive, Carpentersville.

Sound will be transmitted through car radios, according to the park district website. Guests can watch the movie from in their vehicles or outside using blankets and chairs. The La Chilanguita food truck will be on-site.
