Evergreen Park
OFFENDER REGISTRATION: Eddie Vernon Jr., 58, Chicago, was arrested and accused of failing to register as a sex offender during a Sept. 24 investigation of a pedestrian who had been standing in traffic in the 2500 block of 95th Street, police said. Vernon was convicted in Cook County of aggravated sexual assault when he was 24 and the victim was 34, according to the Illinois State Police sex-offender registry online.
BATTERY: Jason A. Ulanski, 40, Hickory Hills, was arrested for battery Sept. 26 at Durbin’s of Evergreen Park, 10240 Kedzie Ave., after he pushed an officer responding to a complaint that Ulanski was trying to touch other patrons, police said. He was transported to OSF Little Company of Mary Medical Center to detoxify, police said.
Frankfort
IDENTITY THEFT: Eugene O. Smart, 39, 1400 block of Memorial Drive, Calumet City, is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 11, charged with burglary, identity theft, forgery and three counts of aggravated battery to a police officer, according to Will County records online. The charges stem from Smart’s use of falsified documents on Sept. 25 in an attempt to withdraw money from the Old Second National Bank, 20201 LaGrange Road, police said.
Homewood
RESTAURANT BATTERY: Jose Hernandez, 29, Chicago, was arrested and accused of battery Sept. 5 after repeatedly punching a restaurant employee in the 17700 block of Halsted Street during an argument over a food order, police said.
Lockport
INJURY HIT-RUN: Officers apprehended a Lockport man Sept. 25 six blocks away from the intersection of 9th and Canal streets where he had crashed into a motorcycle, leaving the motorcyclist lying in the street without a pulse, police said. James E. Lawler, 61, 700 block of Clinton Street, is set to be arraigned Oct. 15 on a charge of failing to yield the right of way, according to Will County court records. The motorcyclist remains hospitalized in intensive care under sedation, police said.
Oak Lawn
ATTEMPTED ROBBERY: One of two men brandishing an open folding knife demanded another man’s cell phone Sept. 25 at the Oak Lawn Community Pavilion, 9401 Oak Park Ave., but returned the device after discovering the battery was dead. One of the two also hit the complainant in the head with a thrown beer can as they departed, police said.
RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY: Cash and jewelry were reported taken Sept. 27 from a home in an undisclosed block of 91st Place. Officers determined one of three open sliding exterior doors had been pried open.
Orland Park
RETAIL THEFT: Alexis E. Arroyo, 24, Chicago, and Erika J. Garcia, 42, Chicago were arrested Sept. 2 and subsequently charged with felony retail theft after stealing merchandise selling for $2,032 from from Ulta, 15754 LaGrange Road, and merchandise selling for about $795 from Jewel-Osco, 9350 159th St., police said.
EMBEZZLEMENT: Elmira H. Butler, 68, 14300 block of Ingleside Avenue, Dolton, was arrested Sept. 4 at Home Depot, 7300 159th St., and accused of using her position as a cashier to steal $270 from July 30 through Aug. 24, police said.
Park Forest
DUI CRASH: Alexis Anderson, 23, Chicago, was arrested and accused of drunken driving with a blood-alcohol concentration above the legal limit and failing to reduce speed to avoid a collision during a Sept. 8 one-vehicle crash investigation near the intersection of Indianwood Boulevard and Orchard Drive, police said.
BATTERY: Jermaine J. Sanders, 29, Chicago, was arrested and accused of battery after kicking an officer during a Sept. 11 trespassing investigation at Subway, 425 Sauk Trail, police said.
ILLEGAL GUN: Andrew M. Walker, 19, 200 block of Allegheny Street, Park Forest, was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon/machine gun after officers recovered a loaded Glock .40 caliber handgun equipped to fire automatically with an extended magazine during a Sept. 21 suspicious-auto investigation in the 200 block of Arrowhead Street, police said.
Tinley Park
TEEN ARRESTED: A young teen who threatened Grissom Middle School students online while posing as a student there was charged Sept. 26 with felony disorderly conduct, police said. The teen, who doesn’t attend the school, hacked into the student’s social-media account Sept. 14, police said.
University Park
ILLEGAL GUN: A University Park man accused of firing a handgun outside a high-rise apartment building less than two blocks from the police station was taken into custody Sept. 22 as he exited his sixth-floor apartment unarmed, police said. Leroy L. Donley, 64, Thornwood House Senior Apartments, is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday, charged with being a felon possessing/using a firearm and recklessly discharging a firearm/endangering others, according to Will County court records online. Officers recovered an unfired 5.7×28 mm bullet from the sixth floor hallway and 5.7×28 mm shell casings from the parking lot, police said. Beecher, Crete, Matteson, Olympia Fields and Park Forest law-enforcement agencies, responding to erroneous reports that shots were being fired from the sixth-floor, assisted in Donley’s arrest, police said.
