A truck trailer detached overnight after being struck by a vehicle that blew a red light signal and the driver was caught after attempting to flee in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood, police said.
About 2:45 a.m. Friday, officers saw a white Jeep traveling east at a high rate of speed in the 2000 block of West Marquette Road. The Jeep disregarded a red light, and struck a truck that was headed north. The truck’s trailer detached and struck a residence and didn’t come to rest until striking a light pole, police said.
The driver of the Jeep fled on foot but was caught a short distance away. The truck driver refused medical help at the scene, and no one inside the residence was injured, police said.
The driver of the Jeep suffered an injury to the right arm and was taken to Holy Cross Hospital in good condition.
Police said multiple traffic citations will be issued to the driver.
