A Chesterton man was fatally shot outside the business where he works in Portage early Wednesday.
The Porter County Coroner’s Office identified the man as 22-year-old Lenell Jenkins. An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday morning.
According to a Portage Police news release, officers responded to a call of shots fired outside Camaco, located at 6515 Ameriplex Drive, around 3:30 a.m. They found Jenkins dead in the parking lot. Witnesses told police that there was a verbal argument between Jenkins and a suspect prior to the shooting, during shift change, the release stated. The suspect fled the scene before officers arrived.
