Steve Reaven’s football rankings and players of the week for Lake County

Antioch and Grayslake North jump in the rankings, while Lake Zurich, Grant and Deerfield also move up.

1. Libertyville 7-0 (1)

From the “not a typo” file, Quinn Schambow has 35 touchdown passes and one interception after throwing for five TDs in less than a half in the Wildcats’ win against Zion-Benton.

2. Stevenson 6-1 (2)

Frank Concialdi blocks a field-goal attempt and Abai Atabekov makes a TD-saving tackle on a 60-yard run in the Patriots’ first win against Warren since 2016.

3. Antioch 6-1 (5)

Martin Cohen rushes for 219 yards and two TDs in addition to throwing a TD pass on a halfback option in the Sequoits’ win against Wauconda.

4. Lake Forest 5-2 (3)

Daniel Van Camp completes 11 of 13 passes for 169 yards and three TDs in the Scouts’ win against Waukegan.

5. Grayslake North 5-2 (7)

Mitchell Hughes scores with his arm and his feet, completing 15 of 22 passes for 279 yards and four TDs and running for an 88-yard TD in the Knights’ win against Lakes.

6. Wauconda 5-2 (4)

Nicholas Ori and Luke Sickmeir are a strong tandem at tight end for the Bulldogs, combining for 656 receiving yards and seven TDs.

7. Lake Zurich 4-3 (8)

George DiCanio’s nine tackles lead the defensive charge in the Bears’ win against Mundelein and increase his season total to 53.

8. Grant 4-3 (9)

Matthew Gipson is a model of efficiency in the Bulldogs’ win against Grayslake Central, completing 16 of 18 passes for 166 yards and four TDs.

9. Deerfield 4-3 (10)

Quinn Schimanski rushes for 134 yards and a TD in the Warriors’ win against Evanston, which is held to less than 200 yards of total offense.

10. Warren 4-3 (6) 

The Blue Devils need a win against Lake Zurich or Libertyville in the final two games to qualify for the playoffs for the seventh straight full season.

Junior running back Tyler Zdon rushes for 292 yards and three TDs on 28 carries during Grant’s 49-34 Northern Lake County Conference win against Grayslake Central.

Senior defensive end Finn Goodman makes three tackles for loss and two sacks in the first half of Lake Forest’s 42-14 North Suburban Conference win against Waukegan.
