Lake Station man charged with attacking woman, man

A Lake Station man is charged after choking a woman he just met that day, then pushing his roommate to the floor.

Ricardo Bustos, 35, was charged Oct. 8 with criminal confinement, battery resulting in serious bodily injury, strangulation, two counts of intimidation, one count of battery resulting in moderate bodily injury, battery against an endangered adult.

A court hearing is scheduled Wednesday. He is in custody, held on a $9,000 bond.

The woman said she was at He Ain’t Here bar in Lake Station with a friend when they went back to the friend’s home. Bustos was there and later asked for a ride home. The woman hesitated, but agreed.

As they were having a drink at Bustos’ home, he attacked her, threatened to kill her. As she tried to right back, he choked her until she passed out. She ran to a neighbor’s home for help.

Bustos’ roommate, in a walker, told cops Bustos then pushed him to the ground.

Gary man charged with rape

A Gary man was charged Oct. 13 with rape and criminal confinement of a woman he knew, court records show.

Damaris Perry, 25, is in custody.

Gary Police responded at 2:24 a.m. Oct. 13 to the 1700 block of 5th Avenue where a woman said she woke up to Perry performing a sex act on her.

Gary man gets probation for shooting gun near crowd

A Gary man got one year probation Oct. 9 for shooting a gun in a parking lot.

Chequon Cook, 23, pleaded guilty Oct. 2 to criminal recklessness.

Police were called at 1:35 a.m. Sept. 2, 2023 to a Dollar General, 555 W. Ridge Road, and near a night club across the street.

A large crowd had been “arguing” and said a man shot a gun 5-10 times. He fled in a white Cadillac Escalade, they said.

Cook said he was at the Dollar General parking lot, when he saw the unruly crowd arguing near the night club and tried to diffuse it by firing shots into the air.
