Lake County authorities said that a pedestrian was killed over the weekend in Vernon Hills when she was struck by a car as she apparently tried to cross Milwaukee Avenue.
The coroner’s office Tuesday identified her as 30-year-old Emily Wegleiz of Vernon Hills.
Wegleiz was trying to cross Milwaukee Avenue in the 900 south block when she was hit by a northbound vehicle at around 10:43 p.m. Friday.
Paramedics arrived and attempted to aid Wegleiz. She was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene. Police said there were no signs of impairment.
Milwaukee Avenue was closed for several hours as police investigated. The accident remains under investigation.
