A Waukegan man faces three felony burglary charges after he was located inside the garage of a Lake Forest apartment building and then tried to flee the scene, police said.
Henry T. Williams, 19, of Waukegan, was charged with three felony counts of burglary on Oct. 21 following an incident when he was seen inside a vehicle in a garage at an apartment building on the 100 block of East Franklin Place. According to police, a resident confronted him and then contacted law enforcement.
Williams tried to leave the area but police had set up a perimeter to secure the area. He was taken into custody on the 1000 block of N. Western Avenue, near the Robert McClory Bike Path, Lake Forest Police Chief John Burke said.
“This incident highlights how important it is for residents to stay aware and report anything unusual,” Burke said in a statement. “Because of that, our officers were able to bring the suspect into custody without further incident.”
Burke added in an interview authorities believe Williams entered at least two vehicles that were both unlocked, Burke noted.
“It is a reminder to always lock your call and don’t leave anything of value in plain sight,” he noted.
Williams was released with a scheduled court date of Dec. 10.
