A fatal fire broke out overnight at a home in north suburban Zion where three people were reported dead and a woman was injured, officials said.
According to a Zion Fire-Rescue Department news release, firefighters were called out shortly before midnight to a structure fire in the 2900 block of Enoch Avenue with possible fatalities. Callers to 911 reported seeing fire and smoke and the possibility of at least five people living in the home, the release said.
Upon arrival rescue found a two-story home fully engulfed and crews pulled equipment to extinguish as much fire as possible, and firefighters began a search and rescue operation, the release said.
Firefighters entered the home and located three victims who did not survive. A neighbor suffered smoke inhalation and was taken to Vista East Medical Center.
Officials said it took about four hours to completely extinguish the fire due to multiple hot spots through the home.
Rescuers believe all other residents of the home are accounted for and are safe.
