Tickets on sale for downtown Elgin Holiday Cheers Beverage crawl
Tickets are available for this year’s Downtown Neighborhood Association Holiday Cheers Beverage Crawl, which will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30.
More than 20 downtown Elgin businesses will be offering a variety of hot holiday beverages for participants to sample, according to a news release. Some participants will offer beverage add-ins such as a shot of alcohol for an additional cost.
Tickets are $25 and will be issued in the form of commemorative, insulated Holiday Cheers cups. Complimentary disposable cups for children will be available at participating locations.
Cups will be ready for pickup from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Nov. 4, through Wednesday, Nov. 27, and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, at the DNA office, 31 S. Grove Ave. Elgin.

‘Promoting Peace, Equity and Inclusion in Elgin’ set for Monday
The Elgin Human Relations Commission will host “Understanding and Addressing Political Violence: Promoting Peace, Equity and Inclusion in Elgin” from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 4, at The Ed Schock Centre of Elgin, 100 Symphony Way, Elgin.
In light of rising concerns about political violence, the event seeks to address the root causes and explore strategies for fostering peace and unity within the community, according to a news release. The free program will feature a keynote address, panel discussion, breakout sessions with faith leaders and law enforcement officials, and a community pledge.

Resources fair for vets at Hanover Township Senior Center
State Sen. Cristina Castro, D-Elgin, Elgin City Councilman Anthony Ortiz and Hanover Township will host a resources fair for military veterans, their families and caregivers from noon to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6, at the Hanover Township Senior Center, 240 S. Route 59, Bartlett.
Attendees can meet with service groups, nonprofit organizations, local businesses and other organizations, according to a news release. Vietnam veteran Marine Corps Cpl. Jack Imburgia, Delta Company, 2nd Platoon, 1st Battalion, 9th Marine Regiment, will be the guest speaker.

South Elgin to dedicate Veterans Plaza on Veterans Day
South Elgin will hold a ribbon-cutting and dedication ceremony from 10:45 a.m. to noon on Veterans Day, Monday, Nov. 11, for its recently completed Veterans Plaza in front of the under-construction Public Safety Center, 50 N. Water St.
The space was designed for quiet reflection and ceremonial gatherings, according to the village’s website. It includes lighted flagpoles, a wall with brass plaques for Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard and Space Force, a small water feature, sensory garden and engraved pavers honoring veterans.
The dedication ceremony is scheduled to start at 11:15 a.m., a village Facebook post said.

Fox River Valley Library District holding book collection events
The Fox River Valley Library District will be collecting donations of new and gently used books from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, at the Dundee Library, 555 Barrington Ave., East Dundee, and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at the library branch at Randall Oaks Recreation Center, 500 N. Randall Road, West Dundee.
Donated books are to be given to Bernie’s Book Bank, a nonprofit based in Lake Bluff, said Sam Bunte, the library district’s adult and teen services manager. A local high school student has partnered with the organization, which distributes free books to children throughout the Chicago metro area.

Dementia caregiver support group to meet monthly at The Atrium
The Atrium at Oak Crest will hold a dementia caregiver support group meeting from noon to 1 p.m. on the second Tuesday of every month starting Nov. 12.
It will be led by LaVon Lenaway, founder and owner of Dragonfly Senior Navigation Services, according to a news release. Lenaway is a gerontologist, educator and consultant with more than 24 years of experience in advocacy, dementia care and education.
In the release, Susan Cincinelli, executive director of The Atrium at Oak Crest, said the meetings are open to anyone providing care for someone with a memory impairment, cognitive challenges or a dementia diagnosis. It’s sponsored by Traditions Health and Northwest Home Health & Rehab and The Atrium at Oak Crest.
