The Arlington Heights police are investigating a shooting that happened Friday night at a Red Roof Inn on Algonquin Road, officials said.
About 11:30 p.m. Friday, the Arlington Heights police and fire responded to a call in the first block of West Algonquin Road from a Red Roof Inn guest service employee reporting a man who entered the motel lobby bleeding profusely from a gunshot wound, according to a news release.
Preliminary information gathered by police indicated several people knocked on the door of a second floor room and confronted two sleeping occupants. A male exited the room and was shot by one of the aggressors, the release stated.
The victim ran to the motel office and asked the clerk to call 911. Four suspects fled the motel in a white sedan, the release said. The other occupant of the room sought refuge in the office, the release said.
First responders found the gunshot victim unresponsive and began lifesaving efforts. Once it was determined the scene was safe, Arlington Heights Fire Department paramedics took over the wounded man’s treatment and transported him to a trauma center, the release said.
The victim’s condition was reported stabilized.
Multiple shell casings were recovered near the victim’s room and detectives were investigating digital and physical evidence connected to the scene.
Officials said Saturday morning there is no danger to the motel’s surrounding area.
