Aurora man dies after crash in Geneva

A man from Aurora died on Sunday after a single-vehicle crash near Route 25 and Fabyan Parkway in Geneva, officials said.

A preliminary investigation of the crash indicates that Carlos Diaz Jr., 31, was driving a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado west on Fabyan Parkway when the vehicle veered across the eastbound lanes of traffic and went off the roadway before the foot of the Fox River bridge, according to a Geneva news release. Officials said in the release that the vehicle was found on the south side of the bridge embankment at around 5 a.m.

Diaz was pronounced dead at the scene after being ejected from the vehicle, the release said. Although the vehicle’s airbags deployed, Diaz was not wearing a seatbelt, officials said.

There were no passengers in the Silverado, according to the release.

The bridge on Fabyan Parkway was closed until around 9 a.m. Sunday while the Geneva Police Department, the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team and the Kane County Coroner’s Office investigated the crash, officials said. The Kane County Sheriff’s Office and the Geneva Emergency Management Agency provided assistance during the investigation, the release said.

The Batavia Police Department and Fire Department also responded to the crash, officials said.

The Kane County Coroner’s Office is expected to perform an autopsy on Diaz, the release said.
