Gary man signs plea for shooting man bringing engine

A Gary man faces up to four years for killing a man delivering an engine.

George D. James, Jr., 47, admitted on Oct. 9 to battery resulting in serious bodily injury, a Level 5 felony. Judge Samuel Cappas would have to accept the plea.

He was charged with fatally shooting Arlandus Jackson, 37, of Chicago, after he helped friend Marcus Johnson take an engine out to Gary.

In exchange for the plea, prosecutors would drop a murder charge, two counts of felony intimidation, one count of aggravated battery and one misdemeanor charge.

His sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 11.

James’ first trial ended with a hung jury on March 1.
