ECC to host Chicago Repertory Ballet performance on Nov. 23
The Chicago Repertory Ballet will perform at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, at Elgin Community College Arts Center’s Blizzard Theater in Building H on the Elgin campus.
Company founder and artistic director Wade Schaaf is an Elgin native and Larkin High School alum who is bringing an “innovative approach to storytelling while breaking preconceived notions of the art form,” an ECC Facebook post on the performance said. The program will offer a blend of classical ballet with contemporary dance forms.

Chamber seeking middle-school entrants for civics bee
The Elgin Area Chamber of Commerce is looking for 6th-, 7th- and 8th-grade students from local schools to participate in the 2025 National Civics Bee competition.
Middle-school students with ideas on how to use civics to improve the community may submit an essay to participate, according to a news release from the chamber. All essays must be entered by 10:59 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25.
A panel of judges will select the top 20 to advance to local competition: an in-person live event featuring two rounds of civics questions followed and a Q&A round, the release said.
Local finalists and top winners will receive prizes, with the first-place winner’s award valued at at least $500.
Winners from each local competition in Illinois will move on to the state finals. The first-place state winner receives a trip to Washington, D.C., to compete nationally for prizes valued at $100,000.

New clock installed outside The Depot in East Dundee
East Dundee’s new vintage-looking clock has been installed outside The Depot and Visitors Center at 319 N. River St.
The clock addition is part of the village’s ongoing efforts to enhance downtown aesthetics, according to the village newsletter. The clock was designed to look like those found at train stations in the early 1900s and is meant to reflect East Dundee’s railroad history.
The $10,000 clock cost $4,000 to install, according to village officials.
Township holiday meal box distribution starts Nov. 20
Hanover Township will begin distribition of Thanksgiving meal boxes to families from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20, at the Hanover Township Astor Avenue Community Center, 7431 Astor Ave., Hanover Park.
Registration is required to receive a meal box, according to a news release. Hanover Township residents must provide a valid ID and a food pantry card or utility bill to register. Only one meal box will be distributed per household.
The meal boxes also will be distributed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 21; Friday, Nov. 22; and Monday, Nov. 25, to Wednesday, Nov. 27, a news release said.
Last year, the township provided 585 Thanksgiving meal boxes to families. Each box contains a 12- to 14-pound frozen turkey, canned fruits and vegetables, gravy mix, potatoes, stuffing mix, coffee and dessert.

East Dundee recycling holiday lights through Jan. 31
East Dundee is accepting broken and unwanted holiday lights to be recycled through Friday. Jan. 31.
The program is being run in partnership with Elgin Recycling, according to the East Dundee Facebook page.
Lights can be dropped off 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday at Village Hall, 120 Barrington Ave.; 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday at The Depot, 319 N. River St.; and anytime in the police station’s lobby, 115 E. Third St.
