A Gary man was shot and killed late Sunday morning, according to police, while a second man perished in a Saturday vehicle crash.
Officers were called at around 11:43 a.m.November 17 to the 3700 block of Broadway to assist the Gary Fire Department, Gary Police Cmdr. Jack Hamady said in a release Sunday. Firefighters let them know there was a man inside dead from a gunshot wound, he said.
The man was identified as a 50-year-old from Gary, but his name has yet to be released.
The investigation is ongoing, Hamady said. Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to call the Lake County Prosecutor’s Homicide Task Force at 219-755-3855.
The Lake County Sheriff’s CSI and Lake County Coroner’s Office assisted.
In a second incident, a Gary man was killed when he was traveling south on Broadway near the Borman Expressway interchange on Saturday afternoon.
Melvin Butler, 64, sustained multiple blunt force trauma injuries in the crash which occured in the 2600 block of Broadway, according to a Lake County Coroner’s Office release. He was pronounced dead at 4:22 p.m. at Methodist Hospital Northlake.
