Naperville D203, support staff union reach tentative contract agreement

The Naperville Educational Support Professionals Association and Naperville School District 203 have reached a tentative agreement for a new contract, officials said in a joint announcement Thursday.

Known as NESPA, the support union has been working all school year on an expired contract. Their previous contract was ratified in 2021 and expired June 30.

No specific details about the new pact were released pending union ratification and school board approval.

The union represents a number of district job positions, including secretarial and clerical employees, health technicians, receptionists, registrars, document services support, paraprofessionals, auditorium managers, campus supervisors, technology support associates and media specialists.

Union representatives met Wednesday with district officials and were able to reach a consensus on a multiyear contract, the statement said.

Earlier this week, NESPA members and supporters participated in a march in downtown Naperville and rally to demand a new contract with livable wages. Members, teachers and parents also attended the school board meeting Monday night to draw attention to the unsettled contract.

“We believe this is a fair and equitable agreement that honors the essential contributions of our educational support professionals and meets the needs of our entire school community,” the joint statement said.

Additional information on the agreement will be shared after NESPA membership and the board of education approve the contract, the statement said.
