Naperville dance groups to be part of Thanksgiving parade
Naperville’s Huaxing Arts Group and ArtEast Chicago Dance Troupe will be among those performing as part of Chicago’s 90th annual Thanksgiving Day Parade from 8 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 28.
Huaxing Arts Group will perform their Chinese ethnic dance, “Snowflakes and Roses,” organizers said. The ArtEast Chicago Dance Troupe will showcase the vibrant Mongolian Chopstick Dance.
The local Asian dance ensembles were selected out of hundreds of entries and will join dozens of other participating acts from across the county, a news release said. They are among a variety of staged live entertainment performances from 8 to 9 a.m. that also include Ballet Folklorico Sones Mexicanos, Crystal Lake Strikers Drumline, Korean Performing Arts Institute of Chicago and more.
The State Street parade also features equestrian groups, floats, show choirs, the Jesse White Tumbling Team, Miss Illinois 2024 Breana Bagley and Miss Illinois Teen 2024 Lucy Kuelper. Several marching bands will perform.

Naperville Art League hosting annual ‘Gallery of Gifts’ sale
Naperville Art League will hold its annual “Gallery of Gifts” fine arts and crafts sale from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays through Dec. 20 at its 508 N. Center St. location.
The public sale features unique art from more than 30 local artists, including jewelry, ornaments, wall art, home decor, specialty soaps, photography and other items, a news release said.
Gift certificates also can be purchased to be used for classes, merchandise or league membership. They’re available at the gallery or online at www.napervilleartleague.com.
The art league is a nonprofit volunteer organization that hosts art classes, gallery exhibits and special events.
Candidates file to run for College of DuPage board seats
Three candidates have filed for three positions on the District 502 College of DuPage Board of Trustees.
Two six-year terms and one two-year term are up for election April 1.
Thomas Tumminaro, of Wheaton, and Maria Sinkule, of Addison, have filed for the two six-year seats ending April 2031.
Sahin “Sonny” Jutla, of Roselle, filed for the two year term, which ends April 2027. Jutla is the sole incumbent running for reelection.
The board of trustees is comprised of seven elected officials and one non-voting student trustee and is responsible for developing and adopting the college’s policies and overseeing the college. It holds monthly meetings at the main campus in Glen Ellyn.
KidsMatter recognizes 2024 Youth Service Award winners
KidsMatter and the Naperville City Council recently recognized 23 students with 2024 Youth Service Awards for their volunteer service to local nonprofit organizations.
The students were nominated for thier work supporting a variety of charitable groups, including West Suburban Community Pantry, Good Shepherd Church Fusion Disability Ministry, Turning Pointe Autism Foundation, Western DuPage Special Recreation Association, Ronald McDonald House, Alive Centers for Teens and 360 Youth Services.
They also volunteered at area governmental bodies, including Naperville Public Library and Naperville Park District.
Students recognized include Kendall Albertini, Soha Ali, Advit Arora, Grey Bauer, Lily Bradley, Lyndeia Clark, Erin Dearie, Bianca Garcia, Siri Gundapaneni, Olivia Huff, Jonathan Lissak, Yagnesh Lokesh, Monish Malla, Anna Mase, Kiera Moran, Juliet Parrott, Shrey Patel, Natalie Pope, Molly Rintoul, Anirudh Saravanan, Joshua Staggs, Sylvia Steger and Anna Weber.
