The Way We Were: Looking back at a time when postcards captured images of mundane Naperville life

This postcard, produced to be mailed to family and friends, features the 6th-grade class at Naperville’s Ellsworth School exercising outdoors in the schoolyard in 1923. It’s hard to know what gym clothes would have looked like in the 1920s but it seems unlikely students would be wearing ties and party dresses had they not been aware their photo was being taken for a special purpose. Ellsworth School, now just for elementary students, is still located at 145 N. Sleight St.
