Oak Park officer critically wounded Friday morning in west suburban Oak Park

The Oak Park Fire Department responded Friday morning to a call of shots fired and found an Oak Park police officer critically wounded according to news release.

Shortly after 9:35 a.m., firefighters and paramedics discovered an Oak Park police officer had been shot on the left side, the release said. He was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood where he was listed in critical condition.

Another person, the offender, suffered a shot to the leg and also went to the same hospital where he was placed into custody.

A short time earlier the offender was seen leaving a bank on Lake St. with a gun, which prompted the initial police  response.
