A suspect opened fire toward officers striking one overnight in west suburban Cicero, officials said.
According to the town of Cicero spokesman Ray Hanania, about 12:45 a.m. Saturday the gunman opened fire toward officers hitting one to the back in the area of 35th Street and 61st Court. The second officer was not wounded, Hanania said.
The officers had approached the suspects vehicle after seeing it was illegally double parked. The officers quickly called for assistance once shots were fired, he said. The officers identified two people who were arrested shortly after attempting to the flee the scene, Hanania reported.
The wounded officer was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood where his condition was stabilized.
The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
