Sons of Serendip to perform holiday concert at ECC

Classical-crossover quartet Sons of Serendip will present a holiday concert featuring songs from their album, “Christmas: Beyond the Light,” at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13, at Elgin Community College’s Blizzard Theatre.

The act was one of the finalists on season nine of NBC’s “America’s Got Talent,” which aired in 2014, according to the ECC Arts Center website. Group members are pianist Cordaro Rodriguez, lead vocalist Micah Christian, harpist Mason Morton and cellist Nathaniel Taylor.

Tickets are $37 and can be purchased at eccartscenter.org/tickets.

State Street shops holding ‘sip and shop,’ donation drive

State Street Market Shops will be holding a special holiday season “sip and shop” event and collecting items for local nonprofits from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13.

The family-friendly evening will feature 35 small businesses offering a variety of unique gifts, according to the market’s website. Complimentary hot chocolate. mulled cider, food samples and free gift wrapping will be available. Live music and goodie basket door prizes will be offered.

They also will be collecting donations for the Community Crisis Center and the Boys and Girls Club, both based in Elgin. Suggested items include clothing, canned goods, pantry staples, hygiene products, toys and gift cards.

State Street Market Shops is located at 701 N. State St. in Elgin.

Holly Days Pop Up Market being held Friday and Saturday

The Downtown Neighborhood Association of Elgin’s Holly Days Pop Up Market will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13, and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Dec. 14, in the lobby of Habitat for Humanity of Northern Fox Valley building at 56 S. Grove Ave. in downtown Elgin.

Local artisans, crafters and vendors will be selling unique, handmade gifts, seasonal treats and holiday décor, according to the DNA website.

D300 Food Pantry needs holiday shopping volunteers

The D300 Food Pantry is seeking volunteers to assist with its holiday shopping program being offered from Sunday to Tuesday, Dec. 15-17, at its Outreach Center, 21 Washington St., Carpentersville.

Volunteers help parents pick out gifts for their children, according to the pantry’s Facebook page.

Shifts are available from 11:45 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 1:45 to 4:15 p.m. Sunday; 4:45 to 6:45 p.m. and 6:30 to 8:15 p.m Monday; and 4:45 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17.

Congregation Kneseth holding Magical Hanukkah Extravaganza

A Magical Hanukkah Extravaganza will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Sunday, Dec. 15, at Congregation Kneseth Israel, 330 Division St., Elgin.

Open to the public, traditional latkes (potato pancakes) and all the fixings prepared by the congregation’s men’s club will be served, according to a news release. The event includes a magician, Sisterhood Hanukkah Bazaar, and games and crafts for the children.

“Hanukkah is a wonderful time to come together as a community and just have some fun,” Rabbi Margaret Frisch Klein said in the release.
