Memorial service for Beidelman co-owner to be held Sunday
A memorial service for John E. Heitmanek, co-owner of Beidelman Furniture, will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15, at the family’s downtown store, 239 S. Washington St.
Heitmanek, 78, was a Naperville resident for more than 50 years, his obituary from the Beidelman-Kunsch Funeral Home said. He died Nov. 14 after a brief illness.
Heitmanek and his wife owned Beidelman Furniture, where he was a salesman for many years, his obituary said. The family-owned custom furniture store is the oldest business in DuPage County, dating back to 1861.
The son of Ernest and Evelyn (Baia) Heitmanek, he graduated from Morton High School in Cicero before earning a bachelor’s degree in acting and a master’s degree in theater arts from the Art Institute Chicago’s Goodman School of Drama.
A skilled harmonica player, he toured the country in the 1970s as part of the Free Street Theater, a multicultural group focused on bringing art performances to underserved communities.
In addition to his wife Lana (Beidelman) Heitmanek, he is surved by his children, Michael Heitmanek and Katelyn Heitmanek (Ross Howard), and his brother Bill (Joan).
Will County offering free pet microchipping in December
Will County Animal Protection Services is offering free microchipping for pets owned by county residents throughout December.
The “Home for the Holidays” promotion includes microchips for cats, dog, rabbits and ferrets, county officials said.
Microchips, which are inserted just under the animal’s skin, help pet owners reunite with lost pets by containing scannable details of an owner’s contact information, a news release said.
Three clinics are participating in the effort:
- Will County Animal Protection Services, 22452 Cherry Hill Road, Joliet, 815-462-5633, which is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays and 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturdays;
- Wilco, 500 Wilco Drive, Romeoville, www.wilco.k12.il.us, which will offer the service from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday through Thursday, Dec. 19;
- Joliet Junior College, 1215 Houbolt Road, Joliet, which is holding a one-day workshop from noon to 3 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13.
Appointments are needed for the protection services and Wilco locations, but not for the one-day JJC workshop. However, pet owners can request a workshop appointment by emailing JJCVNC@gmail.com.
Proof of current rabies vaccination and Will County residency is required at all locations.
