CASA Kane County seeking holiday gifts for foster children
CASA Kane County, which advocates for children in the foster care system, is conducting its annual holiday giving program to ensure that each of the more than 640 children in its foster care system receives a special gift during the holiday season, according to a news release.
Donations of cash, gift cards and new gift items can be donated to the nonprofit organization. Suggested gifts include new toys, games, puzzles, books and items tailored for teenagers, the release said
Financial contributions also help fund the children’s essential needs by covering the cost of such items as hygiene packs, safety equipment and special experiences, including birthday celebrations and driving lessons for older youth.

Anderson Humane puts out call for pet fostering volunteers
Anderson Humane in South Elgin is in urgent need of people to help foster pets waiting for adoption over the holiday season.
Because many people who provide foster care are unavailable because they are traveling or on vacation, temporary homes are needed to help fill the void, a news release from the nonprofit organization said.
“Fostering over the holidays can be lifesaving,” said Dean Daubert, CEO of Anderson Humane, said in the release. “For these animals, even a few weeks in a home can make all the difference in the world.”
The noise and stress of a full shelter can take a toll on animals’ well-being and the temporary loss of regular fosters creates a gap in care, the release said. The shelter provides vet care, bedding, toys and food and team members are available on a 24/7 basis to provide guidance to fostering volunteers.
