The Salvation Army Oak Brook Terrace Corps and Community Center received a holiday boost this month when volunteers from Home Depot’s foundation, Team Depot, dropped by to help with a makeover for the building.
Team Depot volunteers worked on three renovation projects Dec. 11 at The Salvation Army Oakbrook Terrace Corps, 1 S. 415 Summit Ave., including installing new tile flooring in the facility’s food pantry area, installing new tile in a new, second pantry area and fully renovating the front restroom used by clients daily.
In addition to providing all supplies and labor needed for the project, Team Depot donated a new, commercial-grade refrigerator and commercial-grade shelving which will be used for pantry services, according to a news release from the Salvation Army, which described the makeover as “much needed.”
The Oakbrook Terrace Corps currently provides about 300 people with enough food for the week through its Rescue Food program.
What started as a food pick up program during the pandemic, Rescue Food, has continued, as the need has remained great, according to the Salvation Army.
Throughout its program offerings, the Salvation Army’s Oakbrook Terrace Corps assists more than 25,000 area residents in need with food, housing and utility assistance each year, according to the organization.
“Team Depot’s generous donation will ensure these critical services are provided to clients for years to come,” officials said.
