The city of Aurora is seeking public input to help create its 2025-29 Consolidated Plan, which will set the goals and priorities for using some upcoming federal funding.
Aurora is set to receive over $8 million from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development over the next five years, and the plan is required to receive the funding, according to a news release from the city.
Those federal funds can be used on affordable housing for low- to moderate-income households, including rental and homeownership development or home rehab; facilities, housing or services that support special needs populations, such as those with a physical disability or mental illness; and addressing homelessness and activities that promote community economic development or neighborhood revitalization, the release stated.
All of Aurora’s projects and initiatives using federal funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development must tie back to goals and priorities that are outlined in the Consolidated Plan, officials said in the release.
The city must make a new plan every five years and submit it to HUD to receive the funding, according to the release.
To help shape the new plan’s development, the city’s Community Development Division has planned a series of meetings to be held on Thursday, Dec. 19.
Two will be held in person at the fifth floor conference room in Aurora City Hall, 44 E. Downer Place, with one from noon to 1 p.m. and the other from 6 to 7 p.m.
Another will be held online from 6 to 7 p.m. Go to www.aurora-il.org/CommunityPlan to access the virtual meeting through Zoom.
Upon advance request, the city will provide for interpretation or translation services to meet the needs of non-English speaking residents. It will also work to help those who have special needs due to a disability who want to take part in the meetings, officials said in the release. For more information, to make arrangements or to provide comments, contact the Community Development Division, 44 E. Downer Place, at 630-256-3320 or COACDD@aurora.il.us.
The 2025-29 Consolidated Plan is tentatively scheduled for review and approval by the city in February 2025, the release stated.
