Aurora man sentenced to 10 years in prison for drug-induced homicide

An Aurora man has been sentenced to 10 years in state prison after pleading guilty to drug-induced homicide in the 2021 death of a young woman in Boulder Hill, officials said.

Marcos Salas, 37, 400 block of N. Union Street, was sentenced on Monday by Kendall County Judge Jody Gleason, Kendall County State’s Attorney Eric Weis announced in a press release Tuesday.

The case began when members of the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home in the Boulder Hill area in July of 2021 because of a young woman who had passed away unexpectedly, officials said. When it was learned that she died in part due to fentanyl intoxication, a month-long investigation was conducted, according to the release.

During the investigation, numerous search warrants found correspondence between Salas and the victim, as well as Salas and other individuals, according to the release. The messages included admissions to providing the victim with illegal narcotics, which contained fentanyl, and included the cost of the narcotics, officials said.
