Oswego museum announces holiday hours

The Little White School Museum at 72 Polk St. in Oswego has announced its Christmas holiday hours.

The museum and museum store will be closed Tuesday, Dec. 24, through Thursday, Dec. 26, in observance of the Christmas holiday.

The museum will reopen at its usual time, 2 p.m., on Friday, Dec. 27.

Regular hours for the museum are 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, 4 to 9 p.m. Monday, and 2 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday. The museum is closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

St. Charles Episcopal Church announces Christmas services

St. Charles Episcopal Church will hold its Christmas services at 8 p.m. on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, with choir and woodwinds, and 10 a.m. on Christmas Day, Dec. 25, with a string trio.

Kane Forest District plans winter festival

The Forest Preserve District of Kane County will hold its first Polar-Palooza, a family-friendly winter festival, on Jan. 18.

The fest will run from noon to 3 p.m. at Creek Bend Nature Center at 37W700 Dean St. in St. Charles.

The event will include crafts, games and interactive exhibits. Participants can complete activities both indoors and outdoors to earn tickets, which can be redeemed for prizes, according to a press release about the event.

Geneva to pick up Christmas trees in January

Geneva residents will have the chance to dispose of their live Christmas trees in January, city officials said.

Trees will be picked up for free on residents’ garbage days during the weeks of Dec. 30 and Jan. 6 by LRS, Geneva’s waste hauler. No refuse stickers are necessary during this time to have a tree picked up, city officials said in a press release.

Trees discarded after the first two weeks of January will require one Geneva waste sticker, officials said.

Residents must place their live trees out with their garbage no later than 7 a.m. on their scheduled day, according to the release. Ornaments, hooks, nails, tinsel, garland, tree stands and other hard materials should be removed from the trees prior to disposal. Trees placed in bags will not be accepted, officials said.

All wreaths and roping must be discarded in the trash, the release stated.

‘Owl Prowl’ planned for Burnidge Forest Preserve

The Forest Preserve District of Kane County will hold an “Owl Prowl” from 4 to 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 30, in the Burnidge Forest Preserve, 14N035 Coombs Road in Elgin.

Participants will join naturalists on a free sunset hike through the woods to discuss owls, some species of which are particularly active at this time of year as they court, mate and raise their young, according to a social media post for the event.
