An Illinois State trooper was fatally struck Monday night while removing debris from Interstate Highway 55, according to a news release.
Shortly before 9:45 p.m., a trooper was on southbound I-55 near West Blodgett Road. The trooper was attempting to clear debris from the roadway when a vehicle struck the trooper, officials said.
Illinois State police were investigating the crash. No further information was immediately available. As of Tuesday morning, the trooper had not been officially identified by the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
