Lake of the Four Seasons man charged after taking Merrillville Police armored vehicle home

A Lake of the Four Seasons man is facing charges for allegedly taking a Merrillville Police military-style armored vehicle home.

David Shepard-Hambrick, 42, was charged Tuesday with one count of auto theft, a Level 6 felony.

He has not been apprehended. When arrested, his bail is set at $1,000 cash surety.

Merrillville Police Chief Kosta Nuses asked the Indiana State Police to investigate after they discovered Shepard-Hambrick, who owned Hoosier Diesel, took a police MRAP home.

Cops responded at 11:18 a.m. on Oct. 4 to his house. He told cops he took employees to his home because he had to move his stuff.

Nuses told ISP Shepard-Hambrick’s company didn’t end up working on the vehicle; it was serviced somewhere else.

The armored vehicles – a personnel carrier meant to better protect troops against roadside bombs – were introduced during the Iraq War.
