Donnelley Foundation announces $1.58 million in grants to Chicago arts

The Chicago-based Gaylord and Dorothy Donnelley Foundation on Thursday announced it had awarded $1.58 million to 59 Chicago-area arts organizations in 2024, including end-of-the-year grants.

According to the announcement, 21 of those beneficiaries received multi-year grants of $30,000 or more. The foundation, which is also based in South Carolina, makes grants twice a year in the summer and late fall. Grants to Chicago arts organizations last year ranged from $6,000 to $75,000, with most grants going to general operating support. Top recipients include:

  • $75,000 to League of Chicago Theatres and Lawyers for the Creative Arts.
  • $53,250 to Pullman Arts.
  • $40,500 to Chicago Jazz Philharmonic, Jazz Institute of Chicago, Natya Dance Theatre, See Chicago Dance, Segundo Ruiz Belvis Cultural Center and Silk Road Rising.
  • $36,000 to Definition Theatre Company and Shattered Globe Theatre.
  • $30,000 to Asian Improv aRts Midwest, Chicago Dancemakers Forum, Ensemble Dal Niente, Kalapriya, Lucky Plush Productions, Mandala South Asian Performing Arts, Rivendell Theatre Ensemble, Steep Theatre Company, Newberry Consort and the Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art.
