Chicagoans can expect cold temperatures this week in the single digits with little snowfall, according to the National Weather Service.
Sunday morning snow is expected to wrap up sometime in the early afternoon and may be followed by a light drizzle. Snow that started falling Sunday around 4:45 a.m. could accumulate to somewhere between 1 and 2 inches, said Kevin Doom, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service. There may be a little more snowfall Wednesday night, otherwise, Chicagoans may not see snow or rain again until Friday night.
Monday and Tuesday will see colder temperatures, expected to be around 18 to 19 degrees during the day but falling to single digits at night. Tuesday is expected to be the coldest night this week. Wind chills could reach between 5 below and 10 below zero, while the suburbs could see wind chills as low as 15 below.
Doom noted that temperatures are expected to increase after Tuesday, with conditions back to around 30 degrees on Thursday.
Chicagoans can also vote for the finalists in the fourth annual “You Name a Snowplow” contest. Voting is open until Jan. 21 and the top six names will be assigned to snowplows in each of the City’s six snow districts. Candidates for this year’s contest include “Adler Plowatarium,” “Artic Institute of Chicago,” “Boom Boom Plow” and “Snow Way Jose.” Cast your ballot here.
