Chicago could see an inch of snow with temperatures in the low teens

National Weather Service officials are expecting up to an inch of snow Wednesday morning as temperatures hover slightly about 10 degrees in Chicago.

Officials said snow fall was expected mainly between 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday in portions of north central and northeast Illinois, and northwest Indiana. Road conditions in those areas may become slippery, officials warn.

Temperatures were expected to rise in the low 20s after a brutally cold Tuesday with windchills below zero. On Wednesday, wind chills are expected to be in the negative teens, officials said. Windy conditions with gusts up to 25 mph are expected throughout Wednesday when there is a 70 percent chance of snow in Chicago.

The daytime snow accumulation of less than an inch of snow was possible with snow continuing into the night hours mainly between 9 p.m. and midnight, officials said.

Current morning conditions at O’Hare International Airport registered as overcast at 8 degrees with a windchill of negative 13 degrees. Farther south at Midway Airport conditions are the same at 9 degrees.

Officials said the snow was expected to start falling north of I-80 and will expand across the whole region.

Clear conditions are expected Thursday and Friday with temperatures in the high teens to low 20s.
