A man died Monday afternoon after his SUV struck a traffic signal pole at Stearns Road and South McLean Boulevard in South Elgin.
The victim, whose name has not been released, was driving a 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe at a high rate of speed when the collision occurred about 5:20 p.m., a news release from the South Elgin Police Department said.
The driver was the only vehicle occupant and pronouced dead at the scene. An autopsy will be conducted by the Kane County Coroner’s Office.
South Elgin poice closed the area to traffic for more than three hours following the crash. The investigation remains ongoing, the release said.
