The Endeavor Health Cardiovascular Center has officially opened at Edward Hospital.
Located at 10 W. Martin Ave. on the hospital’s Naperville campus, the 71,000-square-foot facility started welcoming patients on Jan. 20. The new center will help meet the community’s needs for outpatient cardiac care, hospital officials say.
“It is very exciting to see our vision for our new outpatient center come to life,” said hospital President Yvette Saba, who is also the Cardiovascular Institute executive for Endeavor Health, Edward’s parent system. “It demonstrates Endeavor Health’s commitment to our endless pursuit of being on the leading edge in delivering best-in-class cardiovascular care.
“Edward was the first in Illinois to have a Heart Hospital, and we are now the first in Chicagoland to have a cardiac outpatient surgery center.”
Construction began on the center in October 2023. Meanwhile, the hospital has also reconfigured campus traffic flow to accommodate the center. The result is a new hospital entrance off Martin Avenue, which boasts the newly opened cardiovascular facility as one of the first buildings visitors see when they drive in.
Standing three stories tall, the center currently houses staff from the Midwest Cardiovascular Institute and Cardiac Surgery Associates. It also includes a new Endeavor Health Cardiopulmonary Rehab area.
The rehab area includes space for patients to pursue therapeutic exercise in order to improve functional capacity and reduce cardiovascular risk, according to Cardiopulmonary Rehab Manager Anne Gavic-Ott.
“We have a wide variety of exercise equipment to accommodate patients who are high functioning and those who are frail and complex,” Gavic-Ott said.
Exercise has a “profound, positive effect … on reducing most cardiac risk factors and on improving function and activities of daily living for pulmonary patients,” she said.
The rehab area has been busy since the center opened. Since Jan. 20, the space has welcomed more than 200 unique patients, Gavic-Ott said.
“Our patients love the new space — it is bright, welcoming and spacious,” she said.
The center’s opening comes as Endeavor Health faces layoffs.
Endeavor announced Thursday that it is eliminating inpatient psychiatric services at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights and laying off “a small number of individuals” across the health system.
An Endeavor spokesman reached by email Thursday could not say whether the layoffs affected any personnel at Edward Hospital.
