Skokie police search Old Orchard after suspected car thief flees

Skokie police responded to Westfield Old Orchard Shopping Center at about 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30 after receiving word that a stolen blue 2019 Kia sedan had been located in the area, according to a police news release.

Four people fled from the vehicle, and Skokie police immediately apprehended three of them. One of these had two firearms in their possession, police said.

Niles North High School, which is across the street from the shopping center, was placed on a soft lockdown, according to police and Niles Township High School District 219 Superintendent Thomas Moore, as police searched for the fourth occupant of the stolen vehicle, who fled on foot.

Skokie police were assisted by neighboring police agencies and a K-9 unit in the hunt for the fourth occupant, according to the news release, which said that after a search, Skokie police confirmed that that person was “no longer present in the immediate vicinity.”

Police are asking anyone with additional information to phone them at 847-982-5900.
