Black & White Art Show at eight venues in East Dundee
The second annual Black & White Art Show will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, at eight venues in downtown East Dundee.
Artwork, which can be purchased during the exhibition, will be judged for first-, second- and third-place awards, according to the East Dundee Arts Council webpage. Attendees can also cast votes for their top three selections, which will also receive awards.
The art will be exhibited at Aliano’s Ristorante, 310 N. River St.; Tequila Val’s Mexican Grill, 309 Meier St.; Black & Gray Brewing Company, 311 Barrington Ave.; Eastside Café, 311 Barrington Ave.; Willow & Birch, 324 N. River St.; Mockingbird Bar + Garden, 217 Barrington Ave.; River Street Tavern, 102 N. River St.; and Diamond Jim’s Gas Grill, 325 Meier St.

Father-son piano duo to present ‘Going Gershwin’ at ECC
The father-son piano duo Ryan & Ryan will present “Going Gershwin,” at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, in the Blizzard Theatre at Elgin Community College, 1700 Spartan Drive.
George Gershwin songs, including “Someone to Watch Over Me,” “Porgy & Bess Fantasy for Two Pianos,” and “Rhapsody in Blue,” are among those that will be performed.

‘Galentine’s Soiree’ being held Tuesday at Dundee Library
A free “Galentine’s Soiree” for students in 4th through 6th grades will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11, at the Dundee Library, 555 Barrington Ave., East Dundee.
Participants, who are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing, will be making body scrubs and lip gloss charms, according to the library’s website.

State Rep. Moeller, CUB hosting utility bill clinic Tuesday
A free utility bill clinic will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11, at the Dundee Library, 555 Barrington Ave., East Dundee.
Sponsored by state Rep. Anna Moeller, D-Elgin, and the Citizens Utility Board (CUB), counselors will offer tips on reducing utility costs and accessing clean energy programs that can save money, according to a news release. Participants will meet directly with CUB counselors to receive a personalized review of their utility bills.
The clinic also will help consumers identify and address unnecessary charges on gas and electric bills and will provide information on rebates, strategies to reduce utility costs and financial assistance programs based on income.

Hawk Hollow to retain name with middle school change
The District U-46 School Board has approved renaming the Hawk Hollow Elementary School building in Bartlett as Hawk Hollow Middle School.
The district received 27 suggestions for new building names and held a town hall meeting in December at which there was support for retaining the name when it makes the switch to a middle school, according to memo presented at last week’s board meeting. In an online survey, 142 of 192 people (74%) voted for the naming the building Hawk Hollow Middle School.
The school has been located at 235 Jacaranda Drive for more than 20 years old and is named after a nearby forest preserve. It will open as a middle school in the 2025-26 school year.
