3 injured, one fatally, overnight in traffic crash in Dunning neighborhood

A gray sedan speeding overnight in the Dunning neighborhood crashed into a utility pole leaving  the driver and two passengers injured, one fatally, Chicago police said.

About 2:15 a.m., officers on patrol saw a sedan travelling at a high rate of speed in the 4200 block of North Oak Park Avenue. The vehicle was unable to maneuver a turn and crashed into an utility police, police said.

A 29-year-old driver suffered trauma to the body and was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center where he was listed in good condition. A woman passenger suffered severe trauma to the body, and was taken to Lutheran General Hospital and listed in critical condition. Another passenger, 29 years of age, also suffered trauma to the body and was taken to the same hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Major Accidents Investigation Unit was investigating, and citations are pending against the driver, police said.
