Lakeview home once owned by rocker Billy Corgan sells for $2.5M

The six-bedroom, 5,750-square-foot Victorian painted lady-style house in Lakeview that rocker Billy Corgan owned from 1993 until 2001 sold once again on Feb. 3, this time for $2.5 million.

Situated on a double lot and with rare driveway access to the street, the house was owned by the Smashing Pumpkins founder and frontman, who was raised in Glendale Heights and now lives in a lakefront mansion in Highland Park.

Built around 1900, the house has 4-1/2 bathrooms, 10-foot ceilings, two offices, millwork, new hardwood floors, two kitchens, all-new mechanicals, updated bathrooms. Outside, it has a heated, 3.5-car garage, a koi pond, a fenced yard, a terrace and a 1,200-square-foot deck atop the garage that has a pergola.

The sellers first listed the house in September for $2.75 million. Just before Christmas, they found a buyer, and the home went under contract.

“The house was beautiful and full of original finishes,” listing agent Doug Smith of @properties Christie’s International Real Estate told Elite Street. “The wraparound porch was lovely and the curved glass bay windows looking out were stunning. It’s been kept in meticulous condition and being on a double lot was very special for the area.”

Corgan paid $455,000 for the home in 1993, and he sold it for $1.05 million in 2001. It sold again in 2019 for $1.8375 million.

Public records do not yet identify the buyers.

The house had a $41,618 property tax bill in the 2023 tax year.
