Lincolnwood Village Clerk Beryl Herman dies at 87: She ‘set a standard for all of us’

The longtime Lincolnwood village clerk will be laid to rest this afternoon, one day after officials announced in a news release that she died.

Beryl Herman, 87, who was first elected village clerk in 2005, was previously a teacher in Lincolnwood School District 74.

Her “peaceful passing” was announced Monday, and funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday.

“Today, we mourn the passing of our beloved Village Clerk, who devoted her life to serving our community with unwavering dedication and passion,” Mayor Jesal Patel stated in the release. “Beryl’s contributions over the years have left an indelible mark on our Village, and her commitment to excellence in public service has set a standard for all of us. We will carry Beryl’s legacy forward as we continue to build a stronger, more vibrant community in her honor.”

According to the release, as village clerk, Herman coordinated Village Board meeting minutes, responded to residents’ questions and fulfilled “her true passion of registering Lincolnwood voters.”

Before being elected clerk, Herman worked for District 74 for  28 years in various roles, including as an English as a Second Language teacher, according to the release.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday afternoon at Weinstein & Piser Funeral Home in Wilmette, with burial to take place in Skokie.
