Naperville man hit by car and killed while walking across Route 59 near Fox Valley Mall in Aurora

A Naperville man was killed Tuesday morning after being hit by a car while walking across Route 59 near Fox Valley Mall, Aurora police said.

The Aurora police and fire departments responded to the crash at the intersection of Route 59 and Fox Valley Entrance 1 at about 8:46 a.m. on Tuesday, finding the victim in the middle through lane on Route 59, a press release on Wednesday from the Aurora Police Department said.

The man, who has since been identified as Derrick Davis, 54, of the 2500 block of Arcadia Circle in Naperville, was taken to Rush Copley Medical Center in Aurora after the crash and pronounced dead about an hour later, according to the release.

Initial findings suggest that a black 2018 Infiniti Q50 was traveling north in the middle lane of Route 59 when Davis attempted to cross the street heading east, and that the driver attempted to stop but was unable to avoid hitting him, according to the release.

The crash is under investigation by the Aurora Police Department’s Traffic Division, the release said.
