Crete
GUN CONVICTION: Atraya T. Cooper, 24, 1400 block of Wayne Drive, Crete, was sentenced Feb. 10 to two years in prison with credit for 147 days served after pleading guilty to possessing a firearm while his gun permit was revoked, according to Will County court records online. The charge stems from a December 2022 investigation in that block, court records show.
Harvey
GUN POSSESSION: Demario Hughes, 46, 1500 block of Lincoln Avenue, Harvey, and Dennis McCarty, 43, Platteville, Wisconsin are scheduled to appear March 5 in Cook County court at Markham, charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon/felon and multiple felony drug charges, according to the Cook County sheriff’s office. A Feb. 19 search by the Organized Crime Division and Hostage Barricade Team recovered a non-serialized 9 mm “ghost” gun and a .22 caliber handgun reported stolen from Valparaiso, Indiana, a 31-round extended magazine and nearly 100 rounds of live ammunition of various calibers, sheriff’s police said. Suspected narcotics recovered include 15 grams of ecstasy, about 10 grams of psilocybin mushrooms, 2 grams of cocaine and 10 grams of crack cocaine, sheriff’s police said.
Homewood
COMBAT WEAPON: Jonte Baker, 19, 18000 block of Homewood Avenue, Homewood, was arrested and accused of unlawful possession of a weapon after officers recovered a pair of brass knuckles during a Jan. 28 investigation at Kohl’s, 17620 Halsted St., police said.
GUN POSSESSION: Leticia Blunt, 29, 2500 block of Locust Road, Homewood, was arrested and accused of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon after officers recovered a loaded firearm and determined she lacked a concealed carry license during a Feb. 3 stop at 183rd Street and Riegel Road, police said.
Lansing
PROPERTY DAMAGE: Mark A. Pratt Jr., 34, Chicago, was arrested Jan. 24, accused of criminal damage to property and told to not return to a hotel in the 2500 block of 173rd Street after damaging a check-in computer and credit-card machine when told he couldn’t smoke in the lobby, police said.
New Lenox
AGGRAVATED BATTERY: Jasmine C. McDonald, 37, 3900 block of Tower Drive, Richton Park, was arrested Feb. 12 on a warrant charging her with aggravated battery to a police officer, assault and damaging property, according to Will County sheriff’s records online. McDonald entered Silver Cross Hospital’s emergency room July 20, knocked over a plastic shield barrier and then threw a computer monitor and scanner at an employee before kicking a security guard in the leg and taking a hand sanitizer dispenser from the wall and throwing it, police said.
DUI CRASH: Bradley Nichols-McCuthan, 33, 100 block of Town Crest Drive, New Lenox, was accused of drunken driving after he and another motorist received serious injuries Feb. 16 in a crash at Lincoln Highway and Cooper Road, police said. Nichols-McCuthan wasn’t immediately arrested because of his medical condition, police said.
Oak Lawn
DEALING ALLEGED: Ryan D. Smith, 38, 15300 block of 8th Avenue, Phoenix, was arrested Feb. 16 and accused of manufacture/delivery of more than 30 grams of cannabis after officers recovered 2 ¾ ounces of marijuana, a digital scale and $800 cash at 105th Street and Cicero Avenue, police said.
ARMED ROBBERY: Clarisa R. Herrera, 22, 2500 block of Minnick Avenue, Oak Lawn, was accused of armed robbery Feb. 20 in the 7-Eleven, 4501 95th St., after she repeatedly hit a store clerk with a broom handle as he tried to prevent her from taking a sandwich, police said. Herrera was also charged with possession of a controlled substance after officers recovered suspected cocaine, police said.
Orland Park
GUN POSSESSION: Dominique D. Wynn, 33, 946 Olive Road, Homewood, was arrested Jan. 24 at 143rd Street and Clearview Drive and subsequently charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon after an officer determined the state had denied Wynn’s application for a gun permit and recovered a .380 caliber pistol stolen from Birmingham, Alabama, police said.
GUN POSSESSION: Kavon L. Smothers, 23, 14100 block of LaSalle Street, Riverdale, was arrested Jan. 30 at 143rd Street and 88th Avenue and subsequently charged with unlawful use of a weapon after officers recovered a 9 mm pistol with a loaded extended magazine and night sights and determined the state had suspended Smothers’ gun permit, police said. Officers also served Smothers with a no-bond Cook County warrant for a weapons offense, police said.
DUI CRASH: Michelle D. Bodie, 68, Hammond, Indiana, was arrested and accused of drunken driving during a Jan. 30 crash investigation at 159th Street and La Grange Road, police said.
Park Forest
FORGERY CHARGED: Police say a Park Forest woman turned a Feb. 8 traffic stop at Park and Winslow streets into a forgery charge by signing a relative’s name on her arrest documents. Deja N. Smith, 26, 100 block of Fir Street, Park Forest, was also charged with aggravated drunken driving, obstructing identification, driving without proof of insurance and illegally transporting alcohol, police said.
RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY: An Ouskaloosa, Iowa man is scheduled to appear in Will County court March 6, charged with residential burglary and aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon, according to court records online. Stephen P. Craig, 53, was discovered Feb. 18 inside an uninhabited house in the 400 block of Tomahawk Street that was ransacked and from which he had removed a .22 caliber luger and ammunition, police said.
Richton Park
GUN POSSESSION: Kenneth P. Johnson, 18, Heartland Drive, Deon Chester, 18, Keenehand Court, and Keyshawn C. Hunter-Davis, 18, Crosswind Drive, all of Richton Park, are scheduled to appear March 5 in Cook County court at Markham, charged with aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon, according to court records. The three were involved in a Jan. 28 afternoon shooting involving two guns near Rich Township High School that wounded Chester and drew more than a dozen Richton Park officers and a Monee K9 unit, police said. Johnson and Chester are being held in Cook County Jail without bail, according to sheriff’s records online.
Steger
CARJACKING: A shared-ride vehicle taken at gunpoint Feb. 18 at Steger Road and Ashland Avenue turned up three miles away at 227th Street and Lahon Road, police said. The driver told police she was transporting five male teens wearing black masks from University Park when she was asked to stop at a gas station and was confronted with a handgun.
Will County
ELDER ABUSE: Dale Thompson, 57, 9100 block of Charrington Drive, Frankfort, is scheduled to appear in Will County court March 3, charged with aggravated battery/victim 60 or older and domestic battery Feb. 15 in that block, according to police and court records online.
