Two teenagers were found dead in Hoffman Estates early Sunday in a suspected case of carbon monoxide poisoning, according to police.
The Hoffman Estates Police Department, along with the fire department, responded to a report of two people who appeared to be unconscious locked inside a vehicle at the 200 block of East Berkeley Lane around 12:37 a.m. Officials found two teenagers — a 17-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl — unresponsive inside the vehicle. Police said that the two were given life-saving measures after authorities forced entry and extracted them from the vehicle.
Both teenagers were then transported to St. Alexius Medical Center, where they were pronounced dead.
The Cook County Medical Examiner identified the teenagers as 17-year-old Yeferson A. Flores Ramos of Hoffman Estates and 16-year-old Litzy Flores of Carpentersville.
According to police, a preliminary autopsy indicated that the two were killed by an accidental carbon monoxide poisoning. The investigation remains ongoing.
