Southland crime: Armed robbery in Oak Lawn, road rage in Homewood, and more

The following items were taken from police and court reports and news releases. An arrest does not constitute a finding of guilt.

Bridgeview

AGGRAVATED ASSAULT: Naif A. Abdulrab, 57, 10400 block of Mason Avenue, Oak Lawn, was arrested Jan. 22 and accused of aggravated assault after threatening a person with a handgun Dec. 6 in the 9200 block of Harlem Avenue, police said.

Burbank

RUSE BURGLARY: A resident of the 7700 block of Leclaire Avenue told police one of three men who performed Jan. 17 concrete work for him kept him busy counting and recounting the payment as the two others rummaged through his bedroom. The resident said he was also pushed to the ground as he moved the trio out of his home.

SHOOTING CHARGES:  Mohanad S. Elayyan, 29, 7100 block of 81st place, Burbank, was extradited from California in January, charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon/no gun permit in connection with an April 29 shoot-out with Samuel Renteria, 36, 5400 block of 84th Street, who is also charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon/no gun permit outside West 79 Sports Bar, according to police and a Cook County court spokesperson. Renteria, injured in the exchange of more than a dozen shots, turned himself in in September, police said.

PUBLIC INDECENCY: Fernando Delacruz Jr., 19, 4600 block of 131st Street, Alsip, was accused of public indecency Feb. 25 after exposing himself to a female employee while detained in the police lock-up, police said.

Crete

BUSINESS BURGLARY: Officers responding to Feb. 26 reports of business break-ins found the south door forced open at a permanently closed pizza store, 1412 Main St., but nothing of value taken, police said.

Evergreen Park

ATTEMPTED ROBBERY: A gun-wielding individual who demanded money at 11:48 p.m. Feb. 23 from an individual at 7-Eleven, 2747 95th St., fled empty-handed when told there was no money.

Homewood

DUI CRASH: Shamar Scales, 33, 14300 block of Michigan Avenue, Riverdale, was arrested and accused of drunken driving and failing to reduce speed to avoid a collision Feb. 4 at 183rd Street and Dixie Highway, police said.

ROAD RAGE: James Perkins, 64, Chicago, and Mitzie Burkart, 56, 2100 block of 175th Street, Homewood, were arrested and accused of aggravated assault Feb. 5 after capping a traffic altercation by pursuing another motorist to a parking lot on Harwood Avenue near Heather Road while brandishing guns, police said.

Midlothian

IMPROPER TOUCHING: A male approached a girl walking alone to school in the area of 148th Street and Central Park Avenue and touched her behind Feb. 25, prompting the girl to flee, police said.

Mokena

AGGRAVATED ASSAULT: Brooke A. Harrison, 38, Joliet, was arrested Feb. 20 in the 9400 block of 191st Street and subsequently charged with aggravated assault with a motor vehicle after using her car as a weapon against another motorist who was an acquaintance, police said.

New Lenox

AGGRAVATED ASSAULT: Louwon T. Scott, 24, 1900 block of Edgeview Drive, New Lenox, was arrested Feb. 21 in that block and subsequently charged with aggravated assault after threatening the victim with a knife, police said.

DUI CRASH: Steven R. Arthurs, 33, 300 block of Circlegate Road, New Lenox, was arrested and accused of drunken driving, failure to reduce speed to avoid a collision and improper lane use during a Feb. 23 three-vehicle crash investigation, police said.

Oak Lawn

AGGRAVATED BATTERY: Destiny S. Bahena, 23, 9700 block of Tulley Avenue, was arrested Feb. 23 and subsequently charged with aggravated battery and resisting arrest after kicking one officer in the groin and two officers in the thigh during an investigation in that block, police said.

ARMED ROBBERY: Ahmed M. Mohsin, 26, 10300 block of 125th Street, Palos Park, was arrested and accused of armed robbery after taking another person’s gun at gunpoint in the 10400 block of Mason Avenue, police said.

Orland Park

GUN POSSESSION: Maron Wright, 31, Gary, Indiana, was arrested Feb. 6 in the 15600 block of La Grange Road and subsequently charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon after officers recovered a .45 caliber handgun with a loaded extended magazine and determined his Illinois gun permit had been revoked, police said.

FELONY SHOPLIFTING: Chalissa D. Lowe, 40, Chicago, was arrested Feb. 8 at Orland Square mall and subsequently charged with felony retail theft and possession of stolen merchandise after officers recovered 89 items collectively selling for $1,229 from three stores, police said. Lowe had seven items from Sephora selling for $260, 17 items from Macy’s selling for $268.99 and 65 items from Bath and Body Works selling for $700.30, police said.

Steger

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY: Two handguns, cash and jewelry were reported taken Feb. 21 in an apartment burglary in the 300 block of West 35th Street.

BUSINESS BURGLARY: Feb. 26 security video shows two masked individuals breaking a window to gain entrance and stealing change at Little Caesar’s, 3325 Chicago Road.
