Geneva man charged with attempted murder

A Geneva man has been charged with attempted murder following what police are calling a domestic dispute at his home early Thursday involving a woman, a news release from the Geneva Police Department said.

Justin Gallo, 42, of the 300 block of Division Street, has been charged with several offenses including attempted first-degree murder, aggravated domestic battery, unlawful restraint, domestic battery, interfering with the reporting of domestic violence and violation of an order of protection, Thursday’s news release said.

Police arrived at Gallo’s home just after midnight on Thursday in response to a call about a domestic disturbance, the release said. Geneva police officers found a woman having difficulty walking on her own, with abrasions and bruising on her face, officials said.

Gallo allegedly threw the woman on a bed and held her down against her will, the release said. She told police she passed out after Gallo sat on her chest and covered her mouth and nose, according to the release.

According to the woman, once she regained consciousness, Gallo covered her mouth to keep her from screaming for help, and she attempted to leave but was stopped, according to the release.

Gallo allegedly took her cellphone, the release said, but she eventually broke free and called the police.

The woman, who was not identified in the release, was taken to Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital in Geneva by the Geneva Fire Department with multiple broken bones, according to the news release.

Gallo was taken to Northwestern Medicine Central DuPage Hospital in Wheaton for minor injuries, and was arrested shortly after his release from the hospital, officials said.

Gallo’s charges were authorized by the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office, the release said.
