Candidate won’t demand a recount

I am Jim Iverson, and I have been running for Skokie District 4 Trustee. Over a thousand of my fellow citizens voted for me, and I am so grateful for that, and honestly a little amazed.

I am about 20 votes behind my opponent, Eddie Olivieri, and I will wait for the final call after the last mail-in ballots are in, but I will not contest the results.

With the narrow margin and the mistakes made in some of the mail-in ballots in our district, I considered whether I should ask for a discovery recount, but I’d like to explain why I will not.

We are all upset that some voters have been partly disenfranchised, but I have spoken with several people, and based on what I understand, the odds are slim that the affected votes would alter the results of our contest.

Furthermore, I know Eddie, and I know that he will do this job well. I want to offer Eddie my gratitude. I have really enjoyed running against him and getting to know him. I am certainly grateful to the citizens who voted for me, but I want to thank everyone who voted. Our turnout for this election was dramatically greater than past elections, and I know it will be higher still at the next election. This is very exciting and uplifting.

James Iverson
